March walk

A successful walk on gravel tracks from Anderwood car park. The sun even came out at the end after a cloudy start to the day.

February Walk CANCELLED is now March's FRIDAY walk

Note This Friday 7th is the March walk

Hello All,
Please note it has been decided to CANCEL the February walk in view of the dreadful weather forecast for Monday and Wednesday, heavy rain but in particularly the possibility of 70mph winds. Trees are still falling in the forest due to the soaked ground conditions.
It is proposed to do the the walk that was planned for February to be done as the March walk (hopefully!). So the current information sheet applies for March.

January walk

In view of the weather forcast for Friday, the atrocious underfoot conditions, in the interests of safety I think it would be wise to say FRIDAY'S WALK IS CANCELLED.
A big concern is the high winds forecast, the car park is all under trees and the proposed walk is virtually all in woodland with tall trees. I have seen scores of large trees down, without exaggeration, throughout the Forest, either up-rooted or snapped off. Better safe than sorry I think.

4th December walk

21 members participated in a walk in the mixed ancient woodlands of deciduous and pines of Wilverley Enclosure. Many trees still had their brown, yellow and golden leaves which with a huge carpet of golden fallen leaves made some splendid scenery.
80% of the walk was on firm gravel tracks, the rest on grassy paths through the woods and open plain.
A light drizzle came on for the final third of the walk - but nobody seemed to mind.

The group's luck with fine weather seems to have run out a little recently!

December Walk

Oct walk

Twenty-five of us braved the elements relying on Dave's luck holding out for fine weather walks. It almost succeeded until on the way back it did rain but we were homeward bound fully refreshed from breathing the forest air. The walk was through open ground with a slight hill at one point that taxed some of us but gave wide ranging views over the forest.

November Shatterford Car Park

Busketts Lawn 2nd October

Very mild even the wind was warm just grey skies and the occasional glimpse of the sun but it didn't rain. Twentysix and one dog made the walk through a varied terrain with made up tracks to sombre wooded areas and open glades. Very enjoyable.

September 6th

We, all twenty of us  were very lucky again, rain promised all week stopped by the time we arrived at 10 am. It was colder that we expected but good for walking. Jim led us on an enjoyable walk in an area we haven't been to with a good mixture of heath and wooded areas on an undulating terrain.
Ken went off to examine crab apple trees.
