 Friday 1st October

A short walk starting from the car park at Fritham at 10.00am.  Tel Charmian on 07914861787 for further information.

A Window of Sunshine

There were 4 of us on the walk this morning - we were lucky enough to have sunshine & fuel to see us through the trip to Fritham.  Starting from the car park we walked down the hill to Eyeworth Pond where we turned right along the gravel track.  We were busy chatting but I found the turn off just before we got to the road & turned up the hill onto the open plain at the top where we turned right again & followed the trail back through the woods along the side of the farm coming out onto the open green near the pub.  We were bathed in sunshine all the way & felt somewhat overdressed in rainwear & heavy boots.  A few puddles & muddy places but great to catch up & enjoy the outdoors.

September

8 of us gathered at the lakes this morning including a couple of new faces raring to go on our monthly short walk.

We started off by walking anti-clockwise around the lower, smaller pond at a good pace.    We saw plenty of red berries on various bushes and trees but noted that blackberries were sparse and quite small in size.  Probably due to lack of rain to swell them.

Upon returning to the car park we continued clockwise around the larger lake past the sea scout headquarters.  There was not a lot of wildlife on the water but a grebe caught the attention of some of us and also two or three Canada geese almost in solitary splendour.   We carried on walking and chatting and passing the time of day with other strollers as we made our way back to the parking area.  It took us 55 minutes in total which was enough time to blow away the cobwebs.  The sun was kind to us and more than one was shedding a coat before the finish.

We all seemed pleased to have done it and have some face to face conversation so thanks again to Michael for organising the opportunity to do so.

The next short walk is set for 1st October and will be led by Charmian.    Meeting point not yet fixed but in  all probability will be at Fritham.   Come along and join in.   Ken
