Friday's walk

Our very - very grateful thanks to Ingrid and; Brian Summersby for leading such a wonderful walk this Friday morning the 4th May. We met at the car park on the Beaulieu Road just past the entrance to Boltons Bench car park. We started at 10 am and our party of 20 had a good walk through the walks nearby and all we could see around us as we walked was this wonderful display of blue bells... We then stopped as before at the men making charcoal in their big oven on wheels in a clearing near the path. And they explained how the operation worked. And how they selected the wood nearby for it. We arrived back at the car park about 1130 am after a marvellous morning.

Arrived home from a great 3 day break in Peasemarsh. The hotel was fine and the walks arranged for us were very varied, enjoyable and all were interesting in many ways. It was good to be with friends and to catch up with those that there isn't always time to do so at the monthly meetings. We can always be sure of plenty of good laughs and banter.
So thank you Mike for a LOT of hard preparation, to John for finding the hotel, to Ian and Caryl for getting our brains working in the quizzes and to Charmian for driving us there and back.
Now back to reality! The suitcase is unpacked and the washing is on.

Molly & I didn't make the Dungeness Nature walk but we did catch the train. The ride itself not pictorial. The experience worth the effort. Oh that tree in the last lot had a plaque on it. [1] The plaque on the tree at Northium [2] The engine that took us to New Romney [3] The engine that bought us back [4] U3A entrained [5] Dungeness! Dungeness ! every body out [6] Believe it or not Molly Watts has climbed to the top of this structure...(forty years ago!!!)

February Walk
“ Monthly U3A walk on Wednesday the 7th February .distance 2 1/2 miles.
We started at 10 am-our usual time- and walked across to the Aboretum and found the gate locked as work was being done there. So we then walked along the path near the road.Then crossed over the road and carried on walking on the cycle track track in a very pleasant circular walk back to the car park.
On the way members spotted a small variety of birds including a tree creeper bird. We were lucky with a dry crisp morning and the forest was as usual at its best for us all to enjoy”.
The next walk will be on Friday 2nd March starting from the car park on the edge of Canada Common(which is just past the Rockingham Arms) We look forward to seeing you all

December Walk

Ah one for each day of Christmas.
A quick wizz round Eling. Had to be quick or we
may have frozen to the spot. I stayed on to visit a few
old mates who now abide on the hill and only
made it home by the skin of my teeth. As I got in
the heavens opened and down came the hail & sleet.

November walk
Just a few words about yesterday's walk led by Ken' Farleigh from
Bramble Hill
car park. One of the best walks I have been on for a long time. Pure forest
walking, no gravel paths, lots of autumn leaves to scuff though. Bit-O-mud here
and there to make it interesting,
streams
to cross and time for a stop & poke about a bit. Not to leave out a company
of like minded walkers and the enjoyment of their presence.
Oh!
and sunshine be it hazy, to boot. The icing!!! A forest swing and shouts of
delight from one of our members [see the pic's]. Who says one is too old? All
together a morning to enjoy.
